Wind Farms (2013 – ongoing)

Carried out the complete range of surveys required to inform the EcIA for several wind farms during 2013.

Works involved

  • Phase 1 habitat surveys; NVC Phase II habitat surveys; full wind farm bat surveys (to BCT/NIEA specific requirements); badger & otter surveys; marsh fritillary habitat surveys; herpetological (lizard & newt) surveys
  • Associated with mapping and reporting for three wind farms projects. Two in County Tyrone, and one in County Fermanagh.
  • Blackstaff Ecology personnel also conducted full wind farm bat surveys for a further two wind farms, one in Tyrone and one in Antrim.
  • This work involved monthly walked transects (May-Sept inclusive) and automated monitoring across extensive upland sites during the night (2-3 hours after sunset and/or 2-3 hours prior to sunrise).
